Mississippi State University welcomed 21,988 students to its Starkville campus in fall 2023, a slight increase from one year prior. Of the total student body at the start of the 2023 academic year, 17,867 were undergraduate students and 4,121 were seeking graduate or professional degrees.
In fall 2023, Mississippi State recorded the largest applicant pool in the university’s 145-year history, as it remains the No. 1 college choice for Mississippi’s high school graduates, with approximately 62.0% of students hailing from the Magnolia State. This led to the largest freshman class in school history, with 3,751 first-year freshmen committing to MSU in fall 2023, equating to an 11.4% year-over-year increase.
On-campus housing capacity is 5,330, leaving over 16,650 students in need of off-campus accommodation. This creates a significant housing need.
